If you open up the April edition of Maxim Magazine, the issue with Jennifer Love Hewitt on the cover, I have two pages worth of photographs including a couple of myself. We shot the feature in late January as an open casting titled Beautify America. Maxim is going city to city, month by month, photographing local girls. The first feature was in NYC, then Miami, with the third stop being D.C. It was a fast-paced day shooting 17 girls in four hours but I had a blast. All the girls were great to work with as well as the staff at Maxim. A big shout out to associate photo editor Stacey Pittman who made the trip down from NYC for the shoot. DudeFest

Down the street from my place is the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse, a historic single theatre venue that hosts movies, comedians and other entertainers. I saw they were having their annual Dudefest, a night of appreciation for the cult classic The Big Lebowski, so I lugged some gear down the street to make some portraits of moviegoers dressed as their favorite characters. Enjoy.

Phil Krantz for Men’s Fitness

Back in July I had the opportunity to photograph Phil Krantz for Men’s Fitness magazine. A former-marine, Phil stopped concentrating on his health while starting his construction business. Grabbing quick unhealthy meals mixed with little exercise left him weighing 258-pounds. But 18-months ago he decided to change himself back. We did the shoot at Gold’s Gym in Chantilly, Va. The way that Phil changed his physic, he looks a bit intimidating now. But in all honesty, he is the most down-to-earth guy with a great sense of humor. The shoot was a lot of fun and the people at Gold’s Gym were greatly accommodating. Here’s a few from the shoot.

So had the chance to spend a few days down in Atlanta. One of the stops was the Georgia Aquarium which is a very impressive facility. Made me wish I was an underwater wildlife photographer. Maybe I’ll get a chance one day.

End of Summer

As summer is winding down, I’m taking a minute to look back at how busy it was for photography as well as vacation. A refuge for me is spending some family time (brother, mom and dad) in Bedford, Pa. at our cottage on the river. Here’s a few frames from a trip at the beginning of August. At least I can combat my end of summer blues with the hopes of hitting the slopes with my new snowboard rig in a few months. Also, I’ll be having some more photos up on the blog as they are published in magazines in the next few months… I’ll be in the October issue of Men’s Fitness with some photograph(s) that I’m pretty excited about.

A Good Cause

So over the weekend I photographed the Ben Tufts & Friends/Craig Tufts Scholarship Fundraiser, a showcase of around nearly twenty artists to raise scholarship money for children to go on a weeklong, outdoor educational adventure camp. Craig was the chief naturalist for the National Wildlife Federation and also the father of two friends growing up (Ben, one of his son’s, is an extremely talented percussionist). He had a real passion for the outdoors and educating folks about the natural world around them.

Men’s Fitness

If you check out this month’s Men’s Fitness magazine and flip to the last page, I have a photo of Sam Bridgewater for the Success Story feature. I photographed Sam back in April after he relocated to Arlington, Va from Massachusetts. After a couple of injuries while riding motocross, Sam found himself locked into an unhealthy lifestyle. He decided to get himself back on a healthy track after breaking up with a girlfriend. Ninety-pounds lighter, Sam seems to be doing well in the D.C. area.

Barron’s

I had the opportunity about two weeks ago to shoot for Barron’s, America’s Financial Magazine. So I packed up my car and my assistant and headed to Baltimore, MD to the T. Rowe Price building to photograph Ned Notzon and Charles Shriver. After scouting locations outside at the Baltimore harbor, I decided on staying indoors because of the high temperatures. Here’s a few photos and the tearsheet.
